Vegas on New Year’s Eve: The Hottest Happenings

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

You probably already know that Las Vegas is one of the places to party on New Year’s Eve. We’ve got a round up for you of some of the hottest music, celebrity sightings, food and fireworks on New Year’s.

Music Galore in Vegas

Las Vegas will be swarming with musicians and acts of all kinds on New Years Eve. It’s a veritable musicpalooza that night. We’ve got the ticket hook up so you can rock n’ roll with Kid Rock in the (highly appropriate) Playboy Club at the Palms Hotel. Book a room at the Palms for the night, and maybe you’ll even run into the Kid.

Then there’s the classical standby and long-time legend Bette Midler, gracing Vegas with her presence at a very special “Divine” New Year’s Eve concert event at Caesar’s Palace.

If hip hop grooves are more your style, you can catch Akon at the House of Blues (in the Mandalay Bay Hotel).

Want some edgy rock/punk with the fabulous Pink? Get tickets to see Pink rockin’ out at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

Celebrity’s and Stars on the Vegas Strip

Las Vegas Celebrity Partys New YearsLove sighting celebs and canoodling with stars? We’ve got the low down on the hookups here:

  • Usher: The Bank at the Bellagio Hotel
  • NKOTB vets Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood: The Mirage Hotel
  • The Kardashian SIsters: LAX at Luxor Hotel

Fireworks, New Years Vegas Glitz Style

Every night of the year is an impressive display of lights in Vegas, but New Year’s Eve offers extra-special fireworks display at midnight, with eight different locations saturating the sky with tons of pyrotechnics. This mother of all fireworks displays can be found around Las Vegas Boulevard. Bring a set of earplugs if you value your hearing. ;)

One of the best vantage points to see the fireworks show is at the Palms Hotel Ghostbar. At 55 stories up, it offers floor-to-ceiling windows, or an outdoor patio, both of which give you great views of the light stampede. As an added bonus, you’ll enjoy an open bar and appetizers from 8-10, and musical grooves by OB-ONE and Greg Lopez.

Hungry? Vegas New Year’s Food is Making Us Drool

Dining in Vegas, which is always a culinary delight, goes to the max on New Year’s Eve. Don’t believe us? Consider the , which takes its normally bountiful food up a notch with a special New Year’s Eve version that offers a 6-course meal consisting of (among other choices) Tuscan Tomatoes, Braised Oxtail, Maple-Glazed Viking Scallops, Rosotto with Black Truffles, Milk-Fed Veal, and Butterscotch and Bailey’s Sabayon.

Ago, at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, is pulling out all the stops with its New Year’s Eve menu. This is Italian food as it was meant to be. At $70 a person, you get a choice of antipastis (personally, we’re gunning for the baby arugula with sliced nameko, clam shell and french horn mushrooms), pasta choice (saffron linguine, anyone?), a main (Chilean sea bass or Pan-seared veal. Can we have both?) and a mouth-watering Torta di Cioccolato dessert–a flourless chocolate tart with mocha chocolate chip ice cream. Italian heaven on New Years? We think so.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you about the spread at the Bradley Ogden (Caesar’s Palace) for the ‘Eve. Like Ago and the Four Season’s, you get choices on each course selection. Some savory sounding standouts include:

  • Organic Garlic Soup with Elephant Garlic Chips
  • Butter-poached Alaskan King Crab with BRaised Baby Leeks and Fuji Apple
  • South Dakota Bison Tenderloin with Anjou Pear Gremolata, Parsnip, and Pinot Noir-Currant Sauce
  • Sticky Toffee Pudding with Winter Fruit Compote and Eggnog Ice Cream (*drool*)

So there you have it. Eat, drink, nosh with stars and pyrotechnic your way through Vegas on New Year’s. Keep your nose to the ground on Freemont Street and the Boulevard, and you can party and dine not only like a rock star, but maybe even with the stars.
